About Alamo Dog & Cat Hospital

Our San Antonio Veterinary Practice Since 1922

Founded in 1922, Alamo Dog & Cat Hospital is Texas’s oldest small animal veterinarian practice.

It originally started as a full service animal hospital, also offering ambulance service and all grooming and pet needs. Dr. U.E. Marney, Drs. Parker, Brown, and Culpepper operated the practice until 1971, when Dr. Eric Lange and Dr. Ronald Orrell took over. Dr. Mark E. LaBrie has owned and operated the hospital since 1984. The dog and cat hospital remained in the same location it was founded in until May 2004, when a new facility was built behind the old building.

Awards & Accolades

  • On March 7, 2009, the Board of Directors of the Texas Veterinary Medical Association had this to bestow upon our veterinary hospital:
“The Texas Veterinary Medical Association is privileged to recognize the Alamo Dog & Cat Hospital, San Antonio, as a heritage veterinary practice meriting admiration and respect for having been in continuous operation since 1922.”

No one ever wants an emergency situation with a pet, but if it happens, this team provides excellent and efficient care. You can call ahead to get your pet on the queue. The vet spoke with me at length and discussed possibilities so we could determine a treatment plan for my girl. She gave additional medications to be on the safe side and cover any contingent infections, and one of the medications is helping her feel better. She helped me get an ultrasound appointment asap, so hopefully we will soon know more and develop a long term plan going forward. Also all the helpers at the front desk are knowledgeable, kind, and patient, and understand the stress and worries of a pet parent going through medical challenges.
